The total amount of reported cases of COVID-19 in Hidalgo County crossed the 54,000 threshold Friday as the county reported 758 new positive cases of the disease.
In a news release, county health officials announced that there are now a total of 54,600 cases of known COVID-19 cases in the county with 1,957 of them marked as active.
The county also announced that the amount of residents in area hospitals being treated for COVID-19 related complications has climbed to 395. 114 of them are in intensive care units.
The county also reported 10 more residents have succumbed to the disease Friday, bringing the total amount of COVID-19 deaths in the county to 2,247.
The deaths include seven males and three women from the cities of Alamo, Donna, McAllen, Mercedes, Mission and Weslaco. Their ages ranged from their 30s to over the age of 70.
