January 13 – The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s “Coffee with the CEO” webinar presents Dr. Carlos J. Cardenas, chairman of the board and Chief Administrative Officer for Doctors Hospital in McAllen. It will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. via Zoom and is free to the public. January 14 – The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (RGVHCC) will host a Dinner & Chalupa networking event. A limited number of tickets are available for the dinner and 20 games of Chalupa to be held at the Double Tree hotel in McAllen. Tickets are $50. Every entry will get four cards with 80 chances to win a prize. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner served promptly at 6 p.m. and the games beginning at 6:30 p.m. Any business donating a prize valued at $50 or more will be able to purchase one ticket at half price. January 15-17 – The 2021 McAllen Marathon Scott Crane Memorial Run will be held as a virtual race experience and supported by a series of virtual events. Runners will have the option to complete their race distance anywhere and anytime during those dates or with an option to defer to 2022. Runners currently registered for the 2021 McAllen Marathon Scott Crane Memorial Run will receive an email with additional details on how to make their selection. All virtual participants will receive a runner box that will include a runner shirt and bib along with sponsor gifts. Finisher medals will be available for pickup during a drive-thru finish line event held the week after the virtual event. Registration is available at www.mcallenmarathon.com.
March 3 – This is the deadline date for entries in the 2021 “Treasures of the Texas Coast Children’s Art Contest.” All Texas students (public, private, and home-schooled) in grades K-6 are invited to participate. Artwork should be based on the theme “Treasures of the Texas Coast” and portray why the Texas coast is important or noteworthy to the participating student. The top 40 pieces of art will appear in a 2022 calendar which will be distributed throughout the state. All entries must be postmarked by Wednesday, March 3, 2021. April 10 – The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce presents the annual Noche En El Rancho Gala at La Estrella Ranch, 11415 N. Mayberry Rd. in Mission. October 22-24 – The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will host First Annual RGV Jalapeño Amateur Championship. The three-day event will have a practice round on Friday with formal play on Saturday and Sunday. Spots are open for 150 golfers to sign up and participate. Maximum handicap allowed is 24, and the format is two-player team Florida Scramble. The handicap index differential between the two players may not exceed 10. The USGA Handicap System will be used.
