14 new COVID-19 deaths reported in Hidalgo County

The amount of new COVID-19 deaths and hospitalizations continue to rise Thursday as the county reported 14 more individuals succumbed from complications related to the disease as 421 COVID-19 afflicted county residents remain in area hospitals due.

County health officials also reported 563 new cases of the disease, bringing the total amount of known positive COVID-19 cases in the county to 56,826. Of those cases, 2.239 remain active.

The new deaths add up to  2,283 total COVID-19 related fatalities. They include 10 males and four females from the cities of Alamo, Alton, Edinburg, McAllen, Mission, Pharr and Weslaco whose ages range from their 40s to over the age of 70.

Of the 421 hospitalized patients, 140 of them are being treated in intensive care units.
