New reported COVID-19 deaths in Hidalgo County remain in the double digits

Another 10 Hidalgo County residents were added to the total number of COVID-19 related fatalities Friday.

County health officials reported the new deaths and 511 new cases of the diseases, 391 of which were confirmed to be cases of COVID-19.

As of Friday, a total of 57,337 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the county, according to a news release. 2,136 of those cases remain active and a total of 2,293 county residents have succumbed to the disease.

The new deaths include six males and four females from the cities of Alamo, Edinburg, Mission, San Juan, Weslaco and an undisclosed city. Their ages ranged from their 50s to over the age of 70.

395 COVID-19 afflicted residents remain in area hospitals with 138 of them being treated in intensive care units.
