Hidalgo County crosses 58K mark in total COVID-19 cases
The COVID-19 death count in Hidalgo County rose by a dozen Tuesday as the county reported the new deaths and 678 new cases of the disease.
In their first COVID-19 report since Friday, county health officials announced the total amount of know cases of the contagious disease now stands at 58,015. Of the new cases, 434 of them are confirmed to be COVID-19. 2,203 of the total amount of reported cases remain active, according to the release.
The new deaths come from seven males and five females from the cities of Alamo, Edinburg, Hidalgo, McAllen, Mercedes, Mission and Pharr. Their ages range from their 50s to over the age of 70. The new deaths increase the county COVID-19 death count to 2,305.
418 county residents remain in area hospitals to be treated with COVID-19 related complications with 141 of them hospitalized in intensive care units.
