18 more Hidalgo County residents have succumbed to the COVID-19 disease as new cases continue to rise, county health officials reported Wednesday.
The county reported 739 new cases of the disease, 483 of which are confirmed to be COVID-19. The new cases contribute to a total of 58,754 known cases of the disease since it arrived in the area last March. Of those cases, 1,883 remain active.
The new deaths are evenly split between nine makes and 9 females from the cities of Edinburg, McAllen, Mission and Pharr as well as two females from undisclosed cities. Their ages range from their 40s to over the age of 70.
The county reported Wednesday that a total of 2,323 residents have succumbed from complications related to the disease.
423 residents are in area hospitals with complications related to the disease with 140 of them being treated in intensive care units, the Wednesday news release stated.
