709 more people tested positive for COVID-19, Hidalgo County health officials said in a Friday news release that also revealed 21 more county residents have succumbed from complications related to the contagious disease.
With the new numbers, the county reported that the total amount of reported COVID-19 cases in Hidalgo County now stands at 60,213 with 2,046 of those cases remaining active. A total of 2,361 people have died after testing positive for the disease.
The new deaths come from 15 females and six males from the cities of Alamo, Alton, Donna, Edinburg, Mercedes, Mission, San Juan, Weslaco and two from undisclosed cities. Their ages ranged from their 20s to over the age of 70.
418 people remain in area hospitals to be treated for COVID-19 related complications and 140 of them are placed in intensive care units.
