Hidalgo County continues to see COVID-19 hospitalization numbers not seen since last summer when area hospitals reached capacity due to the amount of COVID-19 patients being treated there.
On Tuesday, county health officials reported 471 county residents in area hospitals to be treated for COVID-19 related complications. Of those patients, 191 of them are in intensive care units.
At its peak last July, the county reported 1,081 hospitalizations with 304 COVID-19 positive patients placed in ICUs.
The county also reported 624 new cases of the disease, bringing the total amount of known reported COVID-19 cases in the county to 61,595. of those cases, 1,988 remain active.
The county also reported 10 new COVID-19 fatalities Tuesday, bringing the total amount of county residents who have succumbed to the disease to 2,386.
The new deaths come from eight males and two women from the cities of Alamo, Edinburg, McAllen, Mission, Pharr and an undisclosed location. Their ages range from their 40s to over the age of 70.
