18 more Hidalgo County residents succumb to COVID-19

Hidalgo County health officials reported 18 more deaths from COVID-19 related complications Wednesday, bringing the total amount of county residents who have succumbed to the disease to 2,404.

The new deaths come from 10 males and eight females from the cities of Alamo, Donna, Edinburg, McAllen, Mercedes, Mission and San Juan. Their ages range from their 30s to over the age of 70, according to a county news release.

The county also announced 654 new cases of the disease, 387 of which are confirmed to be cases of COVID-19. Since last March when the disease was first reported to be in the county, 62,249 cases of COVID-19 have been reported. 2,068 of those cases remain active.

The amount of county residents hospitalized with COVID-19 related patients decreased from Tuesday when it was reported 471 total residents were in area hospitals with 191 of them were placed in intensive care units. On Wednesday, the county reported those numbers now stand at 440 and 154, respectively.

    cause of spike in cases is probably due to mismanagement of DHR having the wonderful geriatric battle royals where a needed 390,000 65+ residents of RGV need to go to a high school football field and remain over night to get approved to get the vaccine. they should jail these idiots
