733 new COVID cases, 13 deaths reported in Hidalgo County

733 more cases of COVID-19 were reported by county health officials Monday, bringing the total amount of cases of the virus Hidalgo County has seen to 64,284.

County health officials noted in their news release that of the total amount of cases, 2,358 remain active as of Monday morning.

The county also reported 13 fatalities from people who perished after contracting the disease. The news release did not state when these individuals died.

Since their last report on Friday, the county COVID-19 death roll has increased to 2,440. The new deaths were made up of 10 males and three females from the cities of  Alamo, Donna, McAllen, Mercedes, Mission, Pharr, Weslaco and two victims from undisclosed cities.

Of the new victims, the youngest individual was a male from Weslaco in his 40s with the majority of the deaths made up of people over the age of 70.

The amount of county residents hospitalized with COVID-19 related complications saw a slight decrease Monday as the county reported the number now stands at 420 compared to 425 on Friday.

The amount of COVID-19 positive patients being treated in intensive care units, however, remained the same Monday with 149.
