Butterfly statue stolen from Upper Valley Art League

Mission is known for its butterflies, and over 40 butterfly sculptures can be seen around town. The Upper Valley Art League (UVAL) spearheaded the project and is responsible for having them made to customer preference. The art league chose the monarch to display in front of their building; but on the weekend of January 23, the butterfly was stolen.

A metal sculpture was also taken from the front of the building and two other sculptures showed signs of tampering.

“The butterfly is not something you will find in the local flea market,” remarked Robert Codina, Director of UVAL. “It could be identified easily if it makes a public appearance, and the community is encouraged to report any sighting of a monarch sculpture newly erected in the area.”

A report was filed with the Mission Police Department; and the Upper Valley Art League can be contacted at 956-580-2787.
