April 2 – The Museum of South Texas History will host a ¡Cascarón! workshop at 2 p.m. on Facebook Live featuring guidance and historical traditions of decorating cascarónes, the Easter tradition of coloring eggs. It will be posted later on the museum’s Facebook page and website at mosthistory.org/special-events-programs. Kits will be available up to April 3 to museum visitors while supplies last and will include a dozen cascarónes, or eggshells, instruction sheets and supplies necessary to fill and decorate Easter eggs. April 6 – Speer Memorial Library in Mission will host a book discussion of The Joy Luck Club via Zoom at 5:30 p.m. in Spanish, and at 6:30 p.m. in English. A link will be sent to all who sign up, and free copies will be made available, while supplies last, to people who sign up for the book discussions in 2021. April 6 – The International Museum of Art & Science Homeschool Days: Zoology begins at 2 p.m. for 3rd to 5th graders to experiment with matter in different forms and learn about women scientists from the past and present. An activity kit is provided, but supplies like scissors, glue, and writing and coloring tools are not included. Registrants will be emailed a pickup confirmation, a digital copy of the lesson, and the webinar link. Cost is $6 for IMAS members and $10 for general registration. Registration is required; space is limited. Call 956-681-2800 for questions. April 8 – The next RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Dinner & Chalupa will be held at Main Event, 500 N. Jackson Rd., Suite C, in Pharr. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and dinner begins at 6 p.m. Games run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The $50 per guest admission includes dinner and four cards to play 20 games; the first 25 to sign up receive an early bird special of $40. April 10 – The First Annual RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce “South Texas Sporting Skeet Shoot” will be held at Mi Ranchito Sporting Clays in Linn San Manuel. Teams of three are $300 with Annie Oakley’s at $20 per person and Mulligans at $10 each with a maximum of four per shooter. Shooters must provide their own guns, ammunition, hearing and eye protection. There is a youth division for ages 17 and under. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and clays fly at 9:15 a.m. Breakfast, lunch, snacks, competition and door prizes and a live auction fill out the lineup. April 10 – The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce presents the annual Noche En El Rancho Gala at La Estrella Ranch, 11415 N. Mayberry Rd. in Mission. April 15 – The Texas Center for the Book is continuing its the #TXBookChat series with National Student Poet of the Southwest: Texan Ethan Wang. Join the 2020 National Student Poet of the Southwest for a poetry reading and discussion of his work. The program lasts about 30 minutes and offers a quick look into different aspects of the state’s literary world. It begins at 11 a.m. via Zoom. October 22-24 – The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will host First Annual RGV Jalapeño Amateur Championship. The three-day event will have a practice round on Friday with formal play on Saturday and Sunday. Spots are open for 150 golfers to sign up and participate. Maximum handicap allowed is 24, and the format is two-player team Florida Scramble. The handicap index differential between the two players may not exceed 10. The USGA Handicap System will be used.
