July 31 – From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., South Texas Health System will offer free screenings, including blood pressure checks, Body Mass Index (BMI) screenings and glucometer checks, as well as stroke clot education, at the STHS emergency room on Ware Road in McAllen. Social distancing and mask protocols will be observed.
August 1 – The Tip of Texas Orchid Society (TOTOS) will hold their monthly meeting at the Valley Nature Center, 301 S. Border Ave. in Weslaco, at 2 p.m. Patricia Steele will present a program on “Arranging Orchids as Therapy,” and Adrianne Rodriguez, TOTOS member, who will share how she grows orchids at her home in Mission. TOTOS members meet the first Sunday of the month. Anyone interested in learning more about orchids and how to grow them in the Rio Grande Valley is invited to join. The fee is $5 for non-members. August 4 – A Back to School Kickoff will be held at HEB Park, 1616 S. Raul Longoria Rd. in Edinburg, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be free school supplies and backpacks passed out, along with health screenings, vaccines, haircuts, games and activities.

Aug. 13-15 – The International Museum of Art & Science is host a Back to School event to honor Blue Star families. IMAS is a Blue Star museum which means that active military families receive free admission. There will be art activities and more, plus free bags for military families while supplies last. August 25 – The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will host a Congressional Review luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at Embassy Suites, 800 Convention Blvd. in McAllen. Learn about U.S. Congressional and Texas State legislative updates from elected officials and how bills will affect business, education, health, transportation and more. August 26 – The South Texas Senior Summit, hosted by the RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bert Ogden Arena, 4900 S. I69C in Edinburg. The health and wellness event will offer educational presentations, exams from the UTRGV School of Medicine, screenings and activities. Snacks and lunch will be provided. August 28 – The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) will host the 42nd Collage Annual Gala at the McAllen Convention Center Ballroom. The IMAS will be honoring the City of McAllen for its steadfast support of the museum and its mission for 54 years. October 22-24 – The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will host First Annual RGV Jalapeño Amateur Championship. The three-day event will have a practice round on Friday with formal play on Saturday and Sunday. Spots are open for 150 golfers to sign up and participate. Maximum handicap allowed is 24, and the format is two-player team Florida Scramble. The handicap index differential between the two players may not exceed 10. The USGA Handicap System will be used.
