  • Quinta Mazatlán World Birding Center is hosting Arts in the Park along the Superhero Trail from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite superhero. Activities include painting a personal mini-wood peg superhero, creating masks, coloring and meeting a few animals to learn their super strengths.   • The 2021 Southern Exposure Youth Nature Photo Contest awards ceremony will be held at Quinta Mazatlán, 600 Sunset in McAllen, at 7 p.m. The contest features the photography of children ages 5 to 18 showing the beauty of nature in the Rio Grande Valley.   • The International Museum of Art & Science presents their 42nd Collage Annual Gala. The black tie fundraiser will be held at the McAllen Convention Center from 6 to 11 p.m. with entertainment, dinner and valet parking. Tickets are $175 per person and $2000 for a table of eight.   • The Rio Grande Valley Detachment of the Marine Corps League is inaugurating their Marine Corps League Devil Dogleg Golf Tournament. To become an annual event, it will be held at Shary Municipal Golf Course in Mission. Registration runs 7 to 8 a.m., with an 8:30 a.m. starting tee time. The three-person scramble has an entry fee of $300 per team and $20 for two Mulligans with a maximum of four. The entry fee includes cart, fees, breakfast, lunch and goodie bags. Prizes range from $50 to $700. Sponsorships are available from $250 to $5,000.   • The 15th Annual Empty Bowls Luncheon and Silent Auction will take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg. Local restaurants will provide tastings of their signature food offerings. It features music, silent auctions, and a drawing for a new Cartier watch or Louis Vuitton purse. One-of-a-kind ceramic bowls are included with each ticket.   • The Valley Symphony Orchestra offers a pre-season chamber performance of Mendelssohn’s Octet for Strings in E-flat major. Concertmaster Geoffrey Wong will lead the ensemble of eight musicians in this intimate 40-minute concert experience, and only 200 seats to be sold. December 4

The McAllen Holiday Parade returns to a live, in-person presentation this year, stepping off at 6 p.m. from the McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium, 2001 N. Bicentennial Blvd.            Coming back are the illuminated, animated floats, giant helium Macy’s-style balloons, marching bands, celebrity appearances and guests hosts, along with fan-favorite vuelta in designated zones on the parade route. Fans can win sweepstakes prizes before and during the parade and participate in the free, family-friendly Christmas in the Park festival and carnival. More details will be forthcoming.

  • Maestro Peter Dabrowksi leads the Valley Symphony Orchestra as they continue the VSO’s 70th anniversary season with the annual holiday tradition “A Touch of Frost” and the return of the Symphony Chorale under the direction of Dr. Sean Taylor.   • Maestro Peter Dabrowski concert will be a 70th anniversary celebration, as the Valley Symphony Orchestra welcomes returning soloist Daniel Saenz, a lauded cellist who began his music career with the VSO and now teaches and performs across the country.
