August 13 – Bentsen-RGV State Park staff presents Water Quality Day at 2 p.m. at the La Familia Nature Center in the park. The program is free with park admission, but space is limited and reservations are needed. Call ahead to confirm the program schedule and details at 956-584-9156. The park is located at 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Dr. in Mission. Park grounds are open to the public from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., daily, and the park store is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The tram service operates Thursday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

August 13-15 – The International Museum of Art & Science is host a Back to School event to honor Blue Star families. IMAS is a Blue Star museum which means that active military families receive free admission. There will be art activities and more, plus free bags for military families while supplies last. August 16 – The next RGV Hispanic Chamber Manic Monday Mixer will be held at the University Drafthouse on the McAllen Town Lake located at 100 W. Hwy 83 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. There will be door prizes, appetizers and beverages. August 17 – A workshop on how to gain more business leads will be presented by Network Lead Exchange and hosted by the RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce from 9 to 11 a.m. at the EBC Center, 801 E. August 25 – The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will host a Congressional Review luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at Embassy Suites, 800 Convention Blvd. in McAllen. Learn about U.S. Congressional and Texas State legislative updates from elected officials and how bills will affect business, education, health, transportation and more. August 26 – The South Texas Senior Summit, hosted by the RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bert Ogden Arena, 4900 S. I69C in Edinburg. The health and wellness event will offer educational presentations, exams from the UTRGV School of Medicine, screenings and activities. Snacks and lunch will be provided. August 28 – The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) will host the 42nd Collage Annual Gala at the McAllen Convention Center Ballroom. The IMAS will be honoring the City of McAllen for its steadfast support of the museum and its mission for 54 years. October 22-24 – The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will host First Annual RGV Jalapeño Amateur Championship. The three-day event will have a practice round on Friday with formal play on Saturday and Sunday. Spots are open for 150 golfers to sign up and participate. Maximum handicap allowed is 24, and the format is two-player team Florida Scramble. The handicap index differential between the two players may not exceed 10. The USGA Handicap System will be used.
