August 28 – Bentsen-RGV State Park staff will present a Hawk ID Workshop at 1 p.m. and will meet at the tram turnaround at the park headquarters. The program is free with park admission, but space is limited and reservations are needed. Call ahead to confirm the program schedule and details at 956-584-9156. The park is located at 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Dr. in Mission. Park grounds are open to the public from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., daily, and the park store is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The tram service operates Thursday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
August 28 – The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) will host the 42nd Collage Annual Gala at the McAllen Convention Center Ballroom. The IMAS will be honoring the City of McAllen for its steadfast support of the museum and its mission for 54 years. October 22-24 – The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will host First Annual RGV Jalapeño Amateur Championship. The three-day event will have a practice round on Friday with formal play on Saturday and Sunday. Spots are open for 150 golfers to sign up and participate. Maximum handicap allowed is 24, and the format is two-player team Florida Scramble. The handicap index differential between the two players may not exceed 10. The USGA Handicap System will be used.
