October 5 – Speer Memorial Library, located at 12th and Kika De La Garza in Mission, will host the next book discussion featuring One Hundred Years of Solitude, in the library’s Community Room and online via Zoom. There will be two sessions, one at 5:30 p.m. in Spanish and one at 6:30 p.m. in English.  A link will be sent to those who sign up and wish to attend via Zoom. October  18 – South Texas Health System  is hosting “Think Pink” for Breast Cancer Awareness Month with activities to focus on the risks, warning signs and importance of early detection. A Think Pink Parade will be held in the main parking lot at South Texas Health System, 301 W. Expy. 83 in McAllen, on Oct. 2 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. On Mammo Monday, Oct. 18, learn about screening options at the Mission STHS ER, schedule appointments for a special price on mammograms, and take home a goodie bag. October 26 – The 15th Annual Empty Bowls Luncheon and Silent Auctionwill take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg. Local restaurants will provide tastings of their signature food offerings. It features music, silent auctions, and drawings. One-of-a-kind ceramic bowls are included with each ticket. October 22-24– The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (RGVHCC) inaugural “RGV Jalapeño Amateur Championship Golf Tournament will be held at McAllen Palm View Golf Course.  Only 150 players will be allowed, and handicaps of 19 or less accepted in seven flights of play. Entry fee is $150 with enrollment to be done online at www.rgvhcc.org, at the Palm View golf course, calling the Chamber office at 956-928-0060, or at the office, 801 E. Fern, Ste. 131, McAllen.

October 30 – Bentsen-RGV State Park, 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Dr. in Mission is offering a Dutch Oven Cooking workshop at 2 p.m. Programs are included with park admission; reservations are required. Meet at the tram turnaround at park headquarters. Call to register at 956-584-9156.

November 17– The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will host a Meet & Greet Little Joe reception at the Casa de Palmas from 6 to 8 p.m. Little Joe y La Familia will be performing for a Scholarship Fundraising Concert for the RGV Hispanic Chamber Education Foundation on Jan. 22, 2022, along with La Mafia and Elida Reyna and Avante. Limited tickets to the reception are being sold,. Prices are $50 and $75 per person.  For more information, call the RGVHCC at 956-928-0060.

January

January 22 – The Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Tex-Mex Fest Grammy Tour scholarship fundraiser at Payne Arena in Hidalgo. Featured performers include La Mafia, Little Joe y Familia, and Elida y Avante. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the entertainment runs from 7 p.m. to midnight. Ticket prices are $20, $25, $35 and $45 per person. Tickets on the floor level are $100 per person. Tables for eight are available for $1,000.
