October 9 – Bentsen-RGV State Park, 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Dr. in Mission, will offer a butterfly gardening class at 9:30 a.m. Programs are included with park admission; reservations are required. Meet at the tram turnaround at park headquarters. Call to register at 956-584-9156.

October 9– The Edinburg World Birding Center, 714 Raul Longoria Rd., will host a migratory bird walk at 4 p.m. in observation of World Migratory Bird Day. Learn the difference between migratory and year-round birds and why conserving native habitat is important to the birds migrating through South Texas. It is included in the admission price. October 10 –Bentsen-RGV State Park, 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Dr. in Mission, has scheduled a fishing for beginners program at 1 p.m.

October 14 & 28 –Nature Nuts Tours take place at 10 a.m. at Bentsen-RGV State Park, 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Dr. in Mission. Programs are included with park admission; reservations are required. Meet at the tram turnaround at park headquarters. Call to register at 956-584-9156.

October 15, 24 & 30 – Join in a Bentsen Birding Tour at 8 a.m. at Bentsen-RGV State Park, 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Dr. in Mission. Programs are included with park admission; reservations are required. Meet at the tram turnaround at park headquarters. Call to register at 956-584-9156.

October 16– Join in the Fossil Fun workshop at 10 a.m. the Edinburg World Birding Center, 714 Raul Longoria Rd. While learning about the formation of fossils, participants will also join in a hands-on fossil-making activity. Cost is $4 for non-members and $2 for members. Registration and payment are required by Oct. 14. Space is limited. Register by calling 956-381-9922.

October 17 – The next Junior Ranger Club for youth will begin 2 p.m. at Bentsen-RGV State Park, 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Dr. in Mission. Programs are included with park admission; reservations are required. Meet at the tram turnaround at park headquarters. Call to register at 956-584-9156.

October 18 – South Texas Health System is hosting “Think Pink” for Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Mammo Monday for the public to learn about screening options at the Mission STHS ER, schedule appointments for a special price on mammograms, and take home a goodie bag. October 19– The Palmhurst Police Community Partnerships invites the public to their National Night Out event from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Church of Christ, 1410 E. 3 Mile Rd., Palmhurst.

October 26 – The 15th Annual Empty Bowls Luncheon and Silent Auctionwill take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg. Local restaurants will provide tastings of their signature food offerings. It features music, silent auctions, and drawings. One-of-a-kind ceramic bowls are included with each ticket. October 22-24– The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (RGVHCC) inaugural “RGV Jalapeño Amateur Championship Golf Tournament will be held at McAllen Palm View Golf Course.  Only 150 players will be allowed, and handicaps of 19 or less accepted in seven flights of play. Entry fee is $150 with enrollment to be done online at www.rgvhcc.org, at the Palm View golf course, calling the Chamber office at 956-928-0060, or at the office, 801 E. Fern, Ste. 131, McAllen.

October 30 – Bentsen-RGV State Park, 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Dr. in Mission is offering a Dutch Oven Cooking workshop at 2 p.m. Programs are included with park admission; reservations are required. Meet at the tram turnaround at park headquarters. Call to register at 956-584-9156.

October 30– It’s a SPOOKtacular Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Halloween Eve at the Edinburg World Birding Center, 714 Raul Longoria Rd. The free event celebrates the spookiest of holidays when visitors can join n family-friendly activities, create Halloween crafts and explore the grounds. Costumes are encouraged, and participants can earn a bag of treats. Admission is free all day. Most activities are free during the event. For more information, call 956-381-9922.

November 6– The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® will be held at Tres Lagos Park, 4350 Tres Lagos Blvd., McAllen. To register and receive the latest updates on this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, visit alz.org/walk.

November 8 – A Veterans Day Senior League Softball game will be held beginning at 10 a.m. at McAllen’s Westside Park, located at Expressway 83 and Ware Rd.  Veterans age 55 and older are invited to play in the Veterans vs. Veterans softball game. November 17– The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will host a Meet & Greet Little Joe reception at the Casa de Palmas from 6 to 8 p.m. Little Joe y La Familia will be performing for a Scholarship Fundraising Concert for the RGV Hispanic Chamber Education Foundation on Jan. 22, 2022, along with La Mafia and Elida Reyna and Avante. 2022

January 22 – The Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Tex-Mex Fest Grammy Tour scholarship fundraiser at Payne Arena in Hidalgo. Featured performers include La Mafia, Little Joe y Familia, and Elida y Avante. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the entertainment runs from 7 p.m. to midnight. Ticket prices are $20, $25, $35 and $45 per person. Tickets on the floor level are $100 per person. Tables for eight are available for $1,000.
