October 22 –   IDEA Schools North Mission and IDEA Palmview are hosting their Halloween event, Idea’s Spooktacular, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Leo Peña Placita Park, corner of Business 83 and Conway. There will be a costume contest, games, music and prizes with a giveaway every hour, and the Vipers dance team will perform.  Vendors will be handing out candy. October 23 – Park visitors can expand their gastronomic cuisine by taking in the Useful and Edible Plants workshop at 9:30 a.m. at Bentsen-RGV State Park, 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Dr. in Mission. Programs are included with park admission; reservations are required. Meet at the tram turnaround at park headquarters. Call to register at 956-584-9156.

October 26– The next Dinner & Chalupa Night with the RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will be held at the Casaa de Palmas Hotel in McAllen. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner promptly at 6 p.m.  Games begin at 6:30 p.m.  There are 20 games with four Chalupa cards and tickets are $50 at the door.  Early bird is $40 for the first 20 people to sign up. October 26 – The 15th Annual Empty Bowls Luncheon and Silent Auction will take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg. Local restaurants will provide tastings of their signature food offerings. It features music, silent auctions, and drawings. One-of-a-kind ceramic bowls are included with each ticket. October 30 – Bentsen-RGV State Park, 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Dr. in Mission is offering a Dutch Oven Cooking workshop at 2 p.m. Programs are included with park admission; reservations are required. Meet at the tram turnaround at park headquarters. Call to register at 956-584-9156.

October 30– It’s a SPOOKtacular Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Halloween Eve at the Edinburg World Birding Center, 714 Raul Longoria Rd. The free event celebrates the spookiest of holidays when visitors can join n family-friendly activities, create Halloween crafts and explore the grounds. Costumes are encouraged, and participants can earn a bag of treats. Admission is free all day. Most activities are free during the event. For more information, call 956-381-9922.

November 6– The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® will be held at Tres Lagos Park, 4350 Tres Lagos Blvd., McAllen. To register and receive the latest updates on this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, visit alz.org/walk.

November 8 – The Veterans Day Senior League Softball game begins at 10 a.m. at McAllen’s Westside Park at Expressway 83 and Ware Rd.  Veterans age 55 and older are invited to play. For more information or to sign up, call Fred Esqueda at 956-897-6961 or Ed Martens at 956-581-2254.

November 17– The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will host a Meet & Greet Little Joe reception at the Casa de Palmas from 6 to 8 p.m. Little Joe y La Familia will be performing for a Scholarship Fundraising Concert for the RGV Hispanic Chamber Education Foundation on Jan. 22, 2022, along with La Mafia and Elida Reyna and Avante. January 22 – The Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Tex-Mex Fest Grammy Tour scholarship fundraiser at Payne Arena in Hidalgo. Featured performers include La Mafia, Little Joe y Familia, and Elida y Avante. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the entertainment runs from 7 p.m. to midnight. Ticket prices are $20, $25, $35 and $45 per person. Tickets on the floor level are $100 per person. Tables for eight are available for $1,000.
