November 20– Join in a hike and discover a few of the common edible wild plants in the Rio Grande Valley at the Edinburg World Birding Center, 714 S. Raul Longoria Rd. Learn how to identify these plants and get connected to the plant world in a program, Edible Plants of the RGV at 10 a.m. Space for this program is limited. Registration is required by calling 956-381-9922. The program is included with regular admission. Go to edinburgwbc.org for information.

November 20– Join in the world’s largest treasure hunt in a hands-on program at the Edinburg World Birding Center, 714 S. Raul Longoria Rd., at 3 p.m. Learn all about geocaching and practice with a friendly competition amongst participants. The program is recommended for ages 8 and up. Space is limited; registration is required by calling 956-381-9922. Go to edinburgwbc.org for information. Cost is $2 for members and $4 for non-members.

November 20 – Sign up for the Palm Valley Animal Society’s First Annual Give a Bark 5K Walk/Run at Fireman’s Park, at 201 N. 1st St. in McAllen. The main event will kick off at 8 a.m. with a one-mile doggie dash starting at 9 a.m. A breakfast for participants will be held at the “Give a Meow Brunch” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the public at University Draft House. Proceeds from the brunch will benefit PVAS. Registration is $30 for the 5K and $20 for the one-mile Doggie Dash. Register at endurancesplits.redpodium.com/give-a-bark-5k-runwalk. All registered participants will receive a T-shirt, bib and medal.

November 21– Bentsen-RGV State Park, 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Dr. in Mission presents Nature’s Memories: Documenting Nature for Yourself and Others at 2 p.m. The class is included with park admission. Space is limited and reservations are required. Meet at the tram turnaround at the park headquarters; call ahead at 956-584-9156 to confirm the program schedule and for more information.

November 22-28– The Edinburg World Birding Center, 714 S. Raul Longoria Rd., is hosting a week of activities with the following: Monday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Nature Bingo; Tuesday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Seed Art (while supplies last); Wednesday, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and 2-4 p.m., Observation Station; Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Puppet Play; and Sunday, 2-4 p.m., Upcycled Bird Feeder (while supplies last). November 25– The Bentsen-RGV State Park Thanksgiving Tram Tours will run at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The park is located at 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Dr. in Mission. November 26– In addition to the Bentsen-RGV State Park weekly birding tours on Saturdays and Sundays there will be an additional tour on this Friday at 8:30 a.m. The park is located at 2800 S. November 27– Finish off the month and the Thanksgiving weekend with a workshop on Useful and Edible Plants at 9:30 a.m. at Bentsen-RGV State Park, 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Dr. in Mission. November 30 – This is the deadline date to enter the 2021 Save Texas History Essay Contest for 4th and 7th grade students. The statewide contest encourages students to promote their communities’ history by answering an important question: “What history in your community is worth saving?” Two grand prize winners will each receive a $500 gift card and more, and five other finalists in each grade will receive $100 gift cards and more. Entries must meet all eligibility requirements. December 5– Celebrating the annual Christmas tree forest exhibit, the International Museum of Art & Science, will host a Holiday Market at the Museum from 1 to 5 p.m.  Visitors can shop local artists in the market.  General admission is $3 and $1 for children ages 4 and up. December 10– It is time for the 2021 Member’s Night Winter Wonderland at the International Museum of Art & Science, 1900 W. Nolana Ave., McAllen. From 5 to 7 p.m. IMAS members can join in a Christmas Tree Forest scavenger hunt, participate in art and science activities, and children can enjoy story time with staff from the McAllen Public Library. Coffee, hot cocoa, sweets and complimentary gift wrapping will be provided. 2022

January 1 – Save the date and ring in the New Year with a First Day Hike at Bentsen-RGV State Park, 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Dr. in Mission. Choose to participate in a self-guided or limited capacity guided hike. Details will be announced at a later date. Space is limited and reservations are required. January 22 – The Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Tex-Mex Fest Grammy Tour scholarship fundraiser at Payne Arena in Hidalgo. Featured performers include La Mafia, Little Joe y Familia, and Elida y Avante. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the entertainment runs from 7 p.m. to midnight. Ticket prices are $20, $25, $35 and $45 per person. Tickets on the floor level are $100 per person. Tables for eight are available for $1,000.
