November 28 & December 1

  • It’s “Home for the Holidays” when the UTRGV vocal and instrumental ensembles kick off the holiday season with a variety of classic and contemporary music and sing-along. Join in the celebration on Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. at the TSC Performing Arts Center, 90 Taylor Ave., Brownsville. Then catch the performance Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex, 1201 W. University Dr., Edinburg. Admission is free.

  • The students of Dr. Joel Pagán will perform at 5 p.m. in their Fall Viola/Violin Recitalat the UTRGV library auditorium, 1201 W. University Dr., Edinburg. Admission is free.

December 3

  • The Edinburg Chamber of Commerce and City of Edinburg will host the Annual Night of Lights Paradedowntown at 7 p.m. This year’s theme is “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree.” For more information, contact the Chamber staff at 956-383-4974 or information@edinburg.com.

December 4

  • The McAllen Holiday Paradereturns to a live, in-person presentation this year, stepping off at 6 p.m. from the McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium, 2001 N. Bicentennial Blvd. Coming back are the illuminated, animated floats, giant helium Macy’s-style balloons, marching bands, celebrity appearances and guests hosts, along with fan-favorite vuelta in designated zones on the parade route.Fans can win sweepstakes prizes before and during the parade and participate in the free, family-friendly Christmas in the Park festival and carnival.   • The IMAS Christmas Tree Forest, “Christmas in the Rio Grande Valley,”opens and the trees will be judged with an awards reception to follow on Sunday, Dec. 12. For more information, call Bertha Garcia at 956-605-2155. IMAS is located at 1900 Nolana Ave. in McAllen.

  • Maestro Peter Dabrowksi leads the Valley Symphony Orchestraas they continue the VSO’s 70th anniversary season with the annual holiday tradition “A Touch of Frost”and the return of the Symphony Chorale under the direction of Dr. Sean Taylor. Patrons can receive the latest information and sign up for the VSO’s email list at valleyorchestra.org or by calling the VSO office Monday through Friday between 12 and 5 p.m. All performances take place at 8 p.m. at the McAllen Performing Arts Center.

December 14

  • UTRGV Modern Band Ensembles and faculty bandcombine for a concert at 7 p.m. at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex, 1201 W. University Dr., Edinburg. As the students learned new instruments, they made contemporary popular music of varied styles. The show features The Minör Revisiöns, a pop/rock band made up of UTRGV music faculty members. Admission is free.

  • Quinta Mazatlan’s Illumina Fest 2021is a five-day event featuring over 30 art installations as the Quinta Thornforest that is transformed into an illuminated winter wonderland. For tickets, to to QuintaMazatlan.ticketleap.com. Illumina Fest 2020 sold out; early ticket purchase is encouraged.

December 17-18

  • The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Tuesday that the women’s basketball team will host the second annual UTRGV South Padre Island Classic, a four-game tournament featuring UTRGV, UTSA, Liberty and Grand Canyon at the South Padre Island Convention Centre. UTRGV will face UTSA on Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. and Liberty on Dec. 18 at 1 p.m. Grand Canyon will face Liberty on Dec. 17 at 3 p.m. and UTSA on Dec. 18 at 4 p.m. A variety of ticket options and pricing are available online at UTRGVTickets.com or by contacting the UTRGV Athletics Ticket Office team of Seth Jones at 956-665-3877 and Carlos Muñoz at 956-665-3747 or through email at tickets@utrgv.edu.
