February 19– Join Urban Ecologist John Brush for an introduction to the world of birds and birding at 2 p.m. at Quinta Mazatlan, 600 Sunset in McAllen. Guests will learn about the diverse lives and beauty of birds, followed by tips and tricks for bird identification. Included are recommendations on different resources to start the birding journey, plus a short guided bird walk. Admission is $5 at QuintaMazatlan.ticketleap.com.

February 19– The “love” month continues at Quinta Mazatlan, 600 Sunset in McAllen, with the next program on “Love Birds.” Choose the 10 a.m. or 11 a.m. session to discover Quinta’s love birds in residence, from the Northern Cardinal to the Ruby-throated Hummingbird. The activities conclude with making bird-friendly Valentine treats. The program is free with park admission available at QuintaMazatlan.ticketleap.com.

February 19-20 – The Mission Skeet and Trap Club will host a 3-D archery shoot on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 19-20, at 1306 S. Conway Ave., one-half mile south of Expressway 83 in Mission. A chicken plate fundraising dinner is set for Sunday from 12 to 3 p.m. Tickets for the dinner are $7 and will be available at the competition site. February 24– The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Meet & Greet new member reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the EBC Business Center, 801 E. Fern, McAllen. All Valley retired P.E.O. sisters are invited to attend.

February 26 – The public is invited to volunteer for the annual Spring Hawk Watch at Bentsen-RGV State Park in Mission from March 1 to April 30. There will be a Raptor Identification Workshop on Saturday, Feb. 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. This will be a classroom focus on field identification of birds of prey in flight. February 26 – The International Museum of Art and Science Guild will host their Third Annual 5K Superhero Run/Walk at Fireman’s Park, 201 N. 1st Street, McAllen. Participants can sign up online at endurancesplits.redpodium.com–5K-art-runwalk.  Registration for the 5K Run is $25 and $10 for the One-Mile Fun Run. Participants are invited to dress as their favorite hero. March 1 – The public is invited the next discussion at Speer Memorial Library in Mission on for the book Your Second Life Begins When You Realize You Only Have One. March 25-27– TheMission High School Class of 1970 will hold their 50-year reunion with a mixer at the Whistling Duck in Mission on Friday, a semi-formal evening dinner and dance on Saturday at the Mission Event Center, and a farewell breakfast on Sunday (location to be announced).
