June 5– Orchid grower Phillip Hamilton will be the guest speaker at the next Tip of Texas Orchid Society meeting at 2 p.m. at the Valley Nature Center, 301 S. Border in Weslaco. Hamilton, owner of Bredren Orchids in Florida, was born and raised in Jamaica where he inherited his father Claude’s passion for orchids and grew up working in his parents’ orchid nursery, Hamlyn Orchids. He has been growing and hybridizing since the age of eight. Admission is $5 for non-members and free for members of TOTOS. For those who wish to become a member, the yearly membership fee is only $25.

August 27 – The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) presents its 43rd Collage Annual Gala to be held at the museum from 6 to 11 p.m. The black-tie gala fundraiser features silent and live auctions, an open bar and live entertainment. Sponsorships and donations of live and silent auction items are being sought by the Collage committee. Individual tickets will be available in early July.
