July 4

  • McAllen’s 94th Annual Independence Day Celebrationbegins with an early morning patriotic program at 8 a.m., followed by the Main Street Parade at 9 a.m. along Main St. from Houston Ave. to Beech Ave. and then the Freedom Festival at Archer Park, 101 N. Main, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for classic family fun, music, food, and games. The day ends at Municipal Park, 1921 N. Bicentennial Blvd., from 6 to 10 p.m., for more food, live music and entertainment. Starting at 9 p.m., the H-E-B Concert in the Sky fireworks extravaganza will go live from Municipal Park; listen to the fireworks set to patriotic music by tuning in to 710-AM KURV.

July 16

  • UTRGV’s Summer Alegría 2022 is planned for 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Complex, 1201 W. University Dr., Edinburg. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $10 for students and senior citizens, and $5 for children. For more information, call 956-665-2230 or go to utrgv.edu/dance.
  • The next Edinburg Summer Nights Concert will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at 201 N. 7th Ave. Parking can be found at City Hall, 415 W.   • MXLAN 2022, McAllen’s five-day interactive arts and culture festival,celebrates Mexico and Latin America’s heritage and influence on the LatinX community. Events include the Artisan Mercado exhibit, Calenda Parade, 5K Neon Nights Run, concerts, chess tournaments, food event experiences, Mexican Investors Conference, and more.   • A preview reception for the Abstractions: Anne Marchand exhibition will be held on from 5 to 7 p.m. at the International Museum of Art & Science, 1900 W. Nolana Ave., McAllen.The works will be on display to the public from July 30 through Nov. 13. The paintings trace the evolution of her abstract works, which are animated by expressive color and the inventive use of materials to evoke a sense of cosmic and bodily energy.   • It’s a night of Banda, Norteño and Mariachi music with the La Invasion Tour headlined by Banda El Recodo and Gerardo Ortiz and six additional bands. The music and dancing starts at 4 p.m. at H-E-B Park, 1616 S. Raul Longoria Rd. Dancing throughout the stadium will be encouraged.
