July 18-22– The UTRGV STEM Coding Camps for Grades 6-12. Session 2 for Middle School is June 20-24 from 1 to 4 p.m.; Session 3 (Middle School Morning Session and High School Afternoon Session) is July 18-22 – 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (morning) 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (afternoon). It will be in the Interdisciplinary Engineering and Academic Building (EIEAB) Room 2.202 in Edinburg. July 18-29– The University Recreation Summer Youth Camps at UTRGV are for ages 6-11 will be held in the University Recreation Facility in Edinburg. Visit utrgv.edu/urec/community-engagement/youth-camps/index.htm for information and to register.

July 19 & August 21– The Derek Matlock Baseball Academy is holding two Prospect Camps for ages 14 and up. Both run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be at held at 905 N. Sugar Rd., Edinburg. Visit camps.jumpforward.com/UTRGVCamps/ to sign up.

July 19-22– The next Quinta Mazatlan Nature Discovery Camp themes will be Wonders of Wildlife for ages 5 to 8 and Naturalist Academy for ages 9 to 13.  The half-day camps run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Drop-off as early as 8 a.m.; pick-up is no later than 12 p.m.  Cost is $30 for McAllen residents and $40 for non-residents. Advanced registration required; register at mcallenparks.net.

July 22– Nature Nerds are invited to the Second Nature Nerd Kid Day at Frontera Audubon Society, 1101 S. Texas Blvd., Weslaco. From 10 to 11:30 a.m., join in a nature walk, a lesson on nocturnal animals, followed by an activity and snack time, and a craft. For Nature Nerds ages 4 to 9, admission is $3 per child. July 25– Photographing Wild Things is the next subject for the Youth Nature Photo Workshops at Quinta Mazatlán, 600 Sunset Dr., McAllen.  Following instruction and examples with a slide show, youth will take to the trails to find photo opportunities with the wildlife at Quinta Mazatlán with award-winning nature photographer Ruth Hoyt. Sessions are 8 to 10 a.m. for youth ages 8 to 12 and 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for ages 13 to 18. Registration is $5; go to quintamazatlan.ticketleap.com to register. Bring a camera or smartphone. July 30– After several weeks of Youth Nature Photo Workshops it is time for youth to get Contest Ready with the final workshop at Quinta Mazatlán, 600 Sunset Dr., McAllen.  They will make their final selections from the images they have photographed over the past weeks in preparation for the Southern Exposures 2022 Youth Nature Photo Contest, all under the guidance of award-winning nature photographer Ruth Hoyt. Sessions are 8 to 10 a.m. for youth ages 8 to 12 and 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for ages 13 to 18. Registration is $5; go to quintamazatlan.ticketleap.com to register. August

August 27 – The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) presents its 43rd Collage Annual Gala to be held at the museum from 6 to 11 p.m. The black-tie gala fundraiser features silent and live auctions, an open bar and live entertainment. Sponsorships and donations of live and silent auction items are being sought by the Collage committee. Individual tickets will be available in early July. Early access to table reservations is available now through sponsorship. October 20– Idea Public Schools will hold their annual dinner and auction fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. at the Mission Events Center, 200 N. Shary Rd.  Titled “Reach for the Stars,” the formal event features a complimentary valet service and music along with the dinner and auction – all followed by an after party. Sponsorships range from $2,500 to $50,000. Individual tickets are $300. Wednesday

Thursday

Saturday

  • Kids can join in the Nature Nuggetsfrom 10 to 11 a.m. for ages 2 to 6 or Discovery Daysfor age 7 and up from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Quinta Mazatlán World Birding Center, 600 Sunset Ave., McAllen.
