October 4 –Speer Memorial Library in Mission hosts a discussion of the book Britt-Marie Was Here, to take place in the library’s Community Room at 5:30 p.m. in Spanish, and at 6:30 p.m. in English.  The public is invted. Copies of the book available for check out to those who sign up for the book discussion; stop by the library or call at 956-580-8754 to secure a copy via Interlibrary Loan. This title is available in English and Spanish as an eBook, and in English as an eAudiobook, at ebook.yourcloudlibrary.com/library/HidalgoCountyLS. Speer Memorial is located at 12th and Kika De La Garza Loop.  The website is at mission.lib.tx.us.

October 20 –The Idea Public Schools annual dinner and auction fundraiser, “Reach for the Stars,” begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Mission Events Center, 200 N. Shary Rd. The black-tie formal event features a complimentary valet service and music along with the dinner and auction – all followed by an after party. Sponsorships range from $2,500 to $50,000. November 4– The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce annual “Noche de Gala” will be held at the Kalos Event Center, 1516 E. Expressway 83, Mission.  The event highlights business honorees and includes a dinner, dance and silent and live auction items. Funds raised benefit the RGVHCC which is primarily funded through the membership dues, corporate partners and events like this.
