• The UTRGV Theatre presents the chilling play, Frankenstein, from the novel by Mary Shelley, and adapted by Joshua Kennedy and Marco Muñoz. It will be at the Albert L. Jeffers Theatre, 1201 W. University Ave., Edinburg. Continuing the UTRGV Theatre Halloween tradition, this performance is a new re-telling of Shelley’s work. • The UTRGV Faculty Exhibition continues on display in all galleries. Faculty works of art can be seen in the Visual Arts Annex and Charles & Dorothy Clark Gallery on the Edinburg campus at 1201 W. University Dr. and at the Rusteberg Gallery, 2101 Gorgas Dr. in Brownsville.

• The International Museum of Art & Science will host its Second Annual Members’ Juried Art Show with an opening reception for members from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Cardenas Gallery and will include the awards ceremony at 6 p.m. The artwork will be on display through the end of December. • The UTRGV Faculty Chamber Music: Celebrating George Crumb begins at 3 p.m. at the TSC Performing Arts Center, 90 Taylor Ave., Brownsville. Admission is free. Guest tenor Tony Bouteé and faculty pianist Brendan Kinsella perform works by George Crumb, Benjamin Britten and others.

• The next ART_oLoGy class hosted by the Edinburg Cultural Arts Division will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dustin M. Sekula Memorial Library, 1906 S. • Fiesta de Palmas presents Noche del Vino on Friday, Oct. 21, from 6 to 9 p.m. for a wine and food festival at the McAllen Convention Center. Proceeds benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation – Rio Grande Valley. It offers an evening to sample premium wines along with a variety of food tastings. • The 16th Annual 2022 Fiesta de Palmas will feature six stages of local and regional performers and new attractions at the McAllen Convention Center and will feature a line-up of live music, Fiesta’s Grand Carnival rides, diverse foods, Artisan Mercado, children’s interactivities and more. • The Valley Symphony Orchestra begins the season with the Romantic Masterpieces, featuring Dominic Cheli performing Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Dovrak’s Eighth Symphony, a work that travels from joyful to ominous and back again. Also on the program is Brahms’ Hungarian Dance No. 5. Tickets start at just $20. • One of heavy metal’s all-time great bands, Judas Priest, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with the launch of a new North American fall tour. The band is making a stop at Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg. The 50 Heavy Metal Years Tour also features Queensryche as the opening band. • The Valley Symphony Orchestra’s beloved holiday tradition, A Touch of Frost, returns and again features the Valley Symphony Chorale andselections from The Nutcracker and Handel’s Messiah. • Pianist Haysun Kang performs with the Valley Symphony Orchestra for the Out of This World concert. This concert for family audiences will feature the bold and brassy music of the Pixar film The Incredibles as well as two movements (Mars and Jupiter) from Gustav Holst’s The Planets. Finally, Kang performs George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, a uniquely American composition that fuses jazz, ragtime, and bolero styles into one soaring work. • What happens when the minds of Picasso and Einstein come together – from the perspective and talents of actor and writer Steve Martin? • The Valley Symphony Orchestra season finale, West Side Story, is joined by powerhouse pianist Asiya Korepanova performing Edvard Greig’s Piano Concerto in A minor on a program that also includes selections from Bernstein’s masterpiece musical theatre work West Side Story. The Latin rhythms of West Side Story paired with Korepanova’ uninhibited high-energy style will close out the Symphony of Stars season on a high note.
