November 18

• Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience opens today at the McAllen Convention Center, 700 Convention Center Blvd. It will run through Jan. 12, 2023. Guests move along projection-swathed walls wrapped in light and color that swirls and dances as it refocuses into the flowers, cafes and landscapes of Van Gogh’s famous artworks. It is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday and Tuesday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Admission ranges from $24 to $74. For tickets, visit vangoghmcallen.com.

• The Mission High School ENCORE Theatre group presents their musical production of Grease at 7 p.m. each day. It will be staged at the MHS theatre, 1802 Cleo Dawson. Tickets can be purchased at the door each night before the show at the MHS Theatre. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults.

November 18-20

• UTRGV Theatre Department presents Moliére in the Albert L. Jeffers Theatre, 1201 W. University Dr., Edinburg. They bring French playwright Moliére’s wit to stage in a pair of short comedies – The Flying Doctor and Two Precious Maidens Ridiculed – for a farcical mixture of love, mayhem, trickery and more. • The UTRGV Opera Theater brings together favorite opera characters telling new stories in “Portraits” at the TSC Performing Arts Center, 90 Taylor Ave., Brownsville. • The UTRGV Percussion Ensemble performs at 7 p.m. at UTRGV Brownsville’s Music, Science and Learning Center, One W. University Dr., Brownsville. Admission is free.

• The UTRGV Symphony Orchestra French Connection performs on Nov. 21 at the TSC Performing Arts Center, 90 Taylor Ave. in Brownsville, and then on Nov. 22 at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex, in Edinburg.  Both performances begin at 7 p.m.  Admission is $5

• The UTRGV Art Education Senior Experience Exhibition opening reception begins at 7 p.m. at the Charles and Dorothy Clark Gallery on the Edinburg campus, 1201 W. University Dr.

• One of heavy metal’s all-time great bands, Judas Priest, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with the launch of a new North American fall tour. The band is making a stop at Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg. The 50 Heavy Metal Years Tour also features Queensryche as the opening band. • The Valley Symphony Orchestra’s beloved holiday tradition, A Touch of Frost, returns and again features the Valley Symphony Chorale andselections from The Nutcracker and Handel’s Messiah. New in 2022, tenor David Sadlier will perform, and new works including a full symphony and chorale performance of Mariah Carey’s classic, All I Want for Christmas is You, are planned. Santa will be on hand for pictures to spread holiday cheer. It begins at 8 p.m. at the McAllen Performing Arts Center. • Pianist Haysun Kang performs with the Valley Symphony Orchestra for the Out of This World concert. This concert for family audiences will feature the bold and brassy music of the Pixar film The Incredibles as well as two movements (Mars and Jupiter) from Gustav Holst’s The Planets. Finally, Kang performs George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, a uniquely American composition that fuses jazz, ragtime, and bolero styles into one soaring work. • What happens when the minds of Picasso and Einstein come together – from the perspective and talents of actor and writer Steve Martin? Martin’s imagination explores the possibilities in the next UTRGV Theatre production of Picasso at the Lapin Agile. • The Valley Symphony Orchestra season finale, West Side Story, is joined by powerhouse pianist Asiya Korepanova performing Edvard Greig’s Piano Concerto in A minor on a program that also includes selections from Bernstein’s masterpiece musical theatre work West Side Story. The Latin rhythms of West Side Story paired with Korepanova’ uninhibited high-energy style will close out the Symphony of Stars season on a high note.
