December 3– Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park will host Festive Frontera Family Fun Day from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. It is located on 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Dr. in Mission. December 5 – The annual RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s Ugly Christmas Sweater Mixer takes place on at Legacy Event Center, 4610 S. Jackson Rd., Edinburg, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The best ugly sweater worn by a man and a woman will win each person one round-trip ticket on Aeromar Airlines. Bring unwrapped toys to be donated to Sara’s Hope Annual Toy Drive and to be entered in the door prize drawing with one drawing ticket for each donated toy. Be sure to take a photo with Santa. December 9, 10, 11 or 17 – Visitors to the International Museum of Art & Science are invited to take part in one of the multiple Gingerbread House Workshop building challenges. December 10 – The International Museum of Art & Science Folk Art Workshop will explore the art of Mexican basketry and its roots in indigenous practices. Participants, ages 18 and over, will get a closer look at Mexican basketry in the IMAS permanent collection and then create their own functional bowl from reeds. It will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. This class will be taught by IMAS educator Selena Garza and the cost is $15 per participant and $10 for IMAS members. IMAS is located at 1900 W. Nolana in McAllen. December 28-30 –The International Museum of Art & Science will host Operation Imagination Winter Camp, a workshop that will focus on the Smithsonian exhibition “Life in One Cubic Foot,” as campers become investigators through outdoor surveys and activities about nature.
