The Veterans Memorial High School Harlequin Drama Club presents “School of Rock – The Musical,”at the VMHS Performing Arts Center, 700 E. Two Mile Rd, Mission. Performances begin at 7 p.m. each night, and tickets will be sold prior to each performance on the respective dates at the door starting at 6:30 p.m. Student tickets are $5. General public tickets will be $10.

December 9-17

The Upper Valley Art League 2022 Christmas Market is open on Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Kika de la Garza Fine Arts Center, 921 E. 12th St., Mission. The market features original art for sale, created by local artists offering a great variety of unique gifts for the holiday season. The UTRGV Opera Theater will perform at 3 p.m. at the UTRGV Library 1201 W. University Dr. in Edinburg. This is a performance of the UTRGV Opera Theater workshop’s fall production under the direction of Dr. David Sadlier. Admission is $5 and tickets are available at utrgvarts.universitytickets.com.

The UTRGV Youth Symphony Orchestra will present its fall concert featuring young performers from school music programs from across the Rio Grande Valley. Two of the world’s leading euphonium artists, Steve and Misa Mead from England, will showcase their musical stylings at 7 p.m. at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex, 1201 W. University Dr. in Edinburg. Admission is $5.
The Low Brass Studio Recital begins at 7 p.m. at the UTRGV BMLSC 1.217, 90 Taylor Ave. in Brownsville.

The Mission Historical Museum 17th Annual Mission Quilt Show exhibit opens on Jan. 14, 2023, and continues through Friday, Feb. 17,. An awards reception and Turning of the Quilts program will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20. MHM is located at 900 Doherty Ave., Mission. Admission is free. Pianist Haysun Kang performs with the Valley Symphony Orchestra for the Out of This World concert. This concert for family audiences will feature the bold and brassy music of the Pixar film The Incredibles as well as two movements (Mars and Jupiter) from Gustav Holst’s The Planets. Finally, Kang performs George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, a uniquely American composition that fuses jazz, ragtime, and bolero styles into one soaring work. It begins at 8 p.m. at the McAllen Performing Arts Center. What happens when the minds of Picasso and Einstein come together – from the perspective and talents of actor and writer Steve Martin? Martin’s imagination explores the possibilities in the next UTRGV Theatre production of Picasso at the Lapin Agile. The Valley Symphony Orchestra season finale, West Side Story, is joined by powerhouse pianist Asiya Korepanova performing Edvard Greig’s Piano Concerto in A minor on a program that also includes selections from Bernstein’s masterpiece musical theatre work West Side Story. The Latin rhythms of West Side Story paired with Korepanova’ uninhibited high-energy style will close out the Symphony of Stars season on a high note.
