January 27-28 – The Bureau of Land Management will hold a wild horse and burro event in Mercedes at the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show grounds at 1000 N. Texas Ave.  All the animals are eligible for adoption. The event begins Friday, Jan. 27, at 10 a.m. Adoptions will take place Jan. 27, 12 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 28, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.              For more information on the criteria required for adoption, call 866-468-7826 or visit www.blm.gov.

January 28– The staff at Quinta Mazatlán World Birding Center, 600 Sunset Dr. in McAllen, will host the Prepare for Planting workshop at 2 p.m. with John Brush, urban ecologist. Learn how to get ready to plant a wildlife garden, from bed preparation to propagating own native plants. Guests will each receive a small packet of native seeds and leave with their own native plant cuttings. To get tickets, go to quintamazatlan.ticketleap.com/prepare-for-planting-workshop.
