- The McAllen International Carfest returns to the McAllen Convention Center with over 200 vehicles representing 96 different categories of dream cars for enthusiasts to view rare muscle cars, classics, imports, concept cars, hot rods, race cars and more. Activities include Lego Racing Derby, Greenpower USA Racing, R/C Drag Racing, photo opportunities with celebrity cars, meet and greet with superheroes, vendors from food trucks and the marketplace, a Beer Garden with live music, Texas Tops Showcase , and the Swap Meet to sell, buy and swap. Admission is $15 for adults, and $12 for students age 13 to 18, seniors age 60 and above, and military/first responders with valid I.D. - UTRGV’s Ballet Folkórico presents Alegría 2023 at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex on the Edinburg Campus, 1201 W. University Dr. In a collaboration of 40 dancers, 20 musicians, choreographers and scene designers, seven different states and regions will be represented during the show, including a pre-Hispanic piece, Tabasco, Huasteca Veracruzana, Calabaceados from Baja California Norte, Veracruz, Colima and Sinaloa. Opening curtain is 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3-4 and 10-11, and 2 p.m. matinees on Feb. 5 and 12. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and students, and $5 for children. - The Upper Valley Art League will host the Hidalgo Watercolor Society’s annual show with an opening reception from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kika de la Garza Fine Arts Center, 912 E. 12th St. in Mission. This year’s exhibition is entitled “It’s A Colorful World in Watercolor.” The general public is invited, and light refreshments will be served. - The International Museum of Art & Science will host site the exhibition opening of Floating Beauty: Women in the Art of Ukiyo-e. It will be on display through May 7. The works examine the historical perspectives on the depiction of women in art during the Edo Period in Japan (1615 – 1858) and highlights female characters painted on woodblock prints, all created in the ukiyo-e style. - The UTRGV Wind Orchestra will present their TMEA Preview Concert at 7 p.m. at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex, 1201 W. University Dr. in Edinburg. Leading the orchestra is Saul Torres, conductor, with Chad Dempsey, guest conductor. The performance includes the works of Schmitt, Jimenez and Gorb, with the premiere of Dolores, AmeriCan by Giovanni Santo and Ring the Bell by Thomas Bough. Admission is free.

- The Mission Historical Museum, 900 Doherty Ave., will host screenings of the 1979 western film, She Came to the Valley, based on the novel written by local author Cleo Dawson. Show times on each day will be at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. A copy of the novel will be given with the purchase of each $5 ticket. Tickets must be pre-purchased and will not be sold at the door. - The Upper Valley Art League will host a series of four, one-day mosaic workshops offered by Janie Lee. It begins with “Crazy Mosaics” on Feb. 11 from 1 to 5 p.m.; “Pebble Art,” Feb. 16, 1 to 4 p.m.; “Glass on Glass Mosaic,” Feb. 18, 1 to 5 p.m.; and “Drilling with Rocks,” March 4, 1 to 4 p.m. Materials are included in the price of the class. - Pianist Haysun Kang performs with the Valley Symphony Orchestra for the Out of This World concert. This concert for family audiences will feature the bold and brassy music of the Pixar film The Incredibles as well as two movements (Mars and Jupiter) from Gustav Holst’s The Planets. Finally, Kang performs George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, a uniquely American composition that fuses jazz, ragtime, and bolero styles into one soaring work. It begins at 8 p.m. at the McAllen Performing Arts Center. - The Food Bank RGV annual Farm Dinner fundraiser will be held at the historic Valley Fruit Co. building. The event will raise funds for the Food Bank RGV’s community garden and nutrition education programs. The farm dinner features a locally-sourced five course meal prepared by renowned Chef Larry Delgado, winner of Beat Bobby Flay 2021. The cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m. at the food bank’s on-site community garden and farm behind the Food Bank RGV, 724 N. Cage Blvd. in Pharr. Dinner follows inside the Food Bank and will feature live music, silent auction and drawing. Tickets can be purchased at the Food Bank RGV. Seating is limited; early ticket purchase is recommended. - The Heroes with Heart 5K sponsored by South Texas Health System Heart celebrates survivors of heart disease. Registration deadline is Jan. 24 at 12 p.m. at sthsactive.com. Registration fee is $25 for individuals and $35 for late entry. The fee for kids ages 5 to 12 and veterans is $10 and seniors, 55 and older, is $15. Packet pick-up will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, at the South Texas Health System Heart conference room. The race will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the STHS Heart, 1900 S. - What happens when the minds of Picasso and Einstein come together – from the perspective and talents of actor and writer Steve Martin? Martin’s imagination explores the possibilities in the next UTRGV Theatre production of Picasso at the Lapin Agile. With a 1904 setting, they “debate their work, the nature of creative endeavors both scientific and artistic, and trade witty banter.” Show times are 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. - The Gladys Porter Zoo’s annual Ocelot 5K Run supporting ocelot conservation starts at 7:30 a.m., and the corresponding 1-Mile fun run begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Gladys Porter Zoo, 500 Ringgold, Brownsville. Packet pick-up will take place on March 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Meadows Room at the zoo. Cost to participate in the 5K run is only $35 and $30 for the 1-mile run per runner. This cost covers entrance to the zoo, a limited edition dri-fit ocelot shirt, race bib, and race medal. Runners of all ages are encouraged to participate in ocelot attire or costumes. - The annual Ocelot Conservation Day hosted by the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge and Friends of Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge will be held at Gladys Porter Zoo from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. throughout the zoo grounds. Activities include a scavenger hunt, games, ocelot dress-up station, ocelot crafts and drawings, along with information tables, exhibits, and presentations featuring ocelot conservation. - The Valley Symphony Orchestra presents Carmen y Mas at 8 p.m. at the McAllen Performing Arts Center. The concert features the music of the opera Carmen and special guests Mariachi Aztlán, the award-winning UTRGV-based ensemble. Accompanied by the full orchestra, Mariachi Aztlán will deliver a signature high-energy and passionate performance. - The Valley Symphony Orchestra season finale, West Side Story, is joined by powerhouse pianist Asiya Korepanova performing Edvard Greig’s Piano Concerto in A minor on a program that also includes selections from Bernstein’s masterpiece musical theatre work West Side Story. The Latin rhythms of West Side Story paired with Korepanova’ uninhibited high-energy style will close out the Symphony of Stars season on a high note. It begins at 8 p.m. at the McAllen Performing Arts Center.
