February 25 – The International Museum of Art and Science Guild will host the Fourth Annual 5K Run and Walk at Fireman’s Park, at 201 N. 1st Street in McAllen.  Participants can sign up online at endurancesplits.redpodium.com/imas-superhero-5K-run-walk or at theimasonline.org.  Registration for the 5K Run is $25 and $10 for the One-Mile Fun Run. Participants can pick up their packets and T-shirts at the museum, 1900 Nolana in McAllen, from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, or from 7 to 7:30 a.m. at Fireman’s Park on the day of the run. February 28– Staff at Speer Memorial Library in Mission will host a discussion of the book The Rosie Project, in the library’s Community Room at 5:30 p.m. in Spanish and 6:30 p.m. in English.  To obtain a copy for the discussion, stop by the library or call at 956-580-8754. The title is also available in English and Spanish as an eBook, and in English as an eAudiobook, at ebook.yourcloudlibrary.com/library/HidalgoCountyLS. February 28 – The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the RGV Vipers join forces for a networking event at Bert Ogden Arena at 5:30 to 7 p.m. in preparation for the 7 p.m. game.  RGVHCC members need to bring plenty of business cards to network and exchange with other members while enjoying appetizers and beverages at a private reception room.  Each member will receive two complimentary tickets to attend the game at 7 p.m. when the Vipers play against The Long Island Nets.  Members will be able to purchase additional tickets for $5. March 3 – Hidalgo County Precinct 3 is collecting supplies for pets living at Yaqui Animal Rescue in Sullivan City. Donations will be accepted at Precinct 3’s administration office now through March 3. Requested items include cat and dog food – wet or dry; dog treats, and cleaning supplies – Dawn soap and bleach. Items can be dropped off at 724 Breyfogle Rd. in Mission. For more information, call Precinct 3 at 956-85-4509.

March 5– March begins the spring Hawk Watch at Bentsen-RGV State Park and the Hawk ID Workshop will be held at 1 p.m. on this date. Reservations are required for the workshop.  For the hawk watch, meet at the Hawk Tower between 9 and 11 a.m. daily. Call 956-584-9156 to reserve a spot. The park is located at 2800 S. Bentsen Palm Dr. in Mission.

March 8 – The RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Women’s Committee will host the “Hats Off to Women of Distinction Awards Dinner & Expo”, at the Mission Event Center. The evening consists of a cocktail hour, while being entertained with piano music, drawings, Mariachi entertainment and the awards presentation.Tickets are $50 per person and $600 for tables of eight.  Vendor tables are $150 for RGVHCC members and $250 for nonmembers.
