Sharyland ISD Celebrates Maintenance Worker Appreciation Day
Sharyland Independent School District is proud to celebrate Maintenance Worker Appreciation Day on Friday, March 3, 2023. The district recognizes the hard work and dedication of its maintenance and grounds staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep facilities safe and in good condition. Sharyland ISD employs 41 dedicated grounds and maintenance workers who strive every day to ensure that campuses and other facilities are clean and well-maintained.
Mark Dougherty, Executive Director of Facilities and Risk Management, will be recognizing maintenance and grounds staff on Friday, March 3, 2023 at 1:30 PM at the Sharyland ISD Warehouse located at 1243 US-83 BUS, Mission, TX 78572. They will be receiving a small token of appreciation for everything they do.
“We commend our maintenance and grounds staff for everything they do,” said Superintendent Dr. Maria M. Vidaurri. “Their efforts are instrumental in creating a positive learning environment for our students and staff.”
“The goal of the Sharyland ISD Maintenance and Grounds Department is to provide a safe and comfortable environment that is conducive to teaching and learning. We strive to keep all Sharyland Independent School District buildings in the best condition possible in the most cost-effective and fiscally responsible way,” said Executive Director of Facilities and Risk Management, Mark Dougherty.
Chief Financial Officer, Jaime Ortega, who also supervises this department, also expressed his gratitude for the maintenance and grounds staff, stating, “Their hard work and dedication are critical in keeping our facilities running smoothly, and we appreciate everything they do.”
The Maintenance Department maintains over 1,116,370 square feet of buildings (45 total facilities) inside and outside, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, metal work, fire alarm systems and locks. Work in each of these areas is accomplished by highly trained craft personnel. The SISD Maintenance Department completes an average of over 400 work orders per month, which may involve everything from a small repair of an electrical plug to moving walls or installing computer labs. A work order may require three or four different maintenance crafts to complete and may involve from 15 minutes to several weeks of labor. In addition to all of this, the SISD Maintenance Department performs renovations, such as moving walls, constructing cabinets, and redesigning offices, among many other tasks.
Sharyland ISD would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of its maintenance and grounds staff for their continued commitment to ensuring that schools and facilities are safe and well-maintained.
