Alleged drunk driver plows into the old courthouse

Edinburg, TX– On April 8, 2023, at about 7:30 a.m., Edinburg police officers were dispatched to the area of 10th Ave. and University Dr. in reference to a single-vehicle accident. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a white Ford F-150 drove east through the iron protective gates and struck a secondary fence surrounding an A/C unit on the west side of the old courthouse. A 21-year-old suspect who was driving the vehicle was held down by a passerby as he attempted to flee the scene. Severe damage was sustained to the F-150, along with the gate/fence, and a concrete pillar.

The suspect was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated and unlawful carrying of a weapon. Police Chief Jaime Ayala and the Edinburg Police Department would like to thank the good samaritan who assisted in detaining the suspected drunk driver.
