  • The Gladys Porter Zoo, 600 Ringgold in Brownsville, invites the public to Brew at the Zoo from 7 to 10 p.m., with music until 11 p.m. Guests will sip on premium and craft beer samples and sample varied food tastings from area chefs and restaurants. The entertainment includes local artists EDM DJ, Akasha, and rock band, Reserve. The event is for ages 21 and over. Pre-sale tickets are $30 for members and $35 for and $50 at the gate.   • The 17th annual statewide Big Squeeze Youth Accordion Contest, featuring young accordion players across Texas, returns to the Bullock Museum, 1800 Congress Ave., from 1 to 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The event features performances from Josh Baca & the Hot Tamales, fronted by Los Texmaniacs’ Grammy-nominated accordionist Josh Baca, and North Texas accordion teacher and musician Elena Fainshtein.

  • The South Padre Island Jailbreak Beach Escape will be a two-day event at Clayton’s Beach Bar and Grill. The one-of-a-kind obstacle course race challenges participants to climb over walls, crawl through sand, navigate tire climbs and more. The registration fee is $50 per person or $180 for a group of four.
