May 12– The International Museum of Art & Science will host the Young Adventurers – Nature Artworkshop at 10 a.m. Cost is $5 and $3 for IMAS members. Kids will paint without brushes to tap into their creativity using unique objects to paint. This workshop includes a story time. The workshop is led by IMAS educator Edgar Cortez. Young Adventurers is an early childhood program for ages 3 to 6 with an accompanying adult. IMAS is at 1900 W. Nolana Ave., McAllen.  Call 956-681-2800 for information.

May 13– Take Mom for a Mother’s Day weekend outing to delve into S’more History at 3 p.m. at Bentsen-RGV State Park; reservations required. Programs are included with park admission. May 13 –IMAS Guild hosts an afternoon of fashion, auctions, and music at the International Museum of Art & Science, 1900 Nolana Ave., McAllen. It runs from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person. All proceeds support the IMAS educational programs and exhibitions. May 14– In case Mom decides to take a vacation on Mother’s Day weekend, learn how to survive in natural habitat with the Useful and Edible Plants workshop at 10 a.m. at Bentsen-RGV State Park. May 16 – Join staff at Speer Memorial Library in Mission for a discussion of the book Me Before You in the library’s Community Room at 5:30 p.m. in Spanish, and at 6:30 p.m. in English.  Everyone is welcome to attend and discuss the book. Copies of the book are available for check. May 18– The next Bentsen Easy Nature Walk begin at 9 a.m. at Bentsen-RGV State Park. Wear comfortable shoes and a hat and bring a water bottle for the trek through the natural habitat. May 18 & 24– The Mission and Sharyland Baccalaureate services will feature Micah Crump as guest speaker. The Mission CISD service will begin at 6:30 p.m. on May 18 at the Mission High School Neuhaus gym. The Sharyland ISD service begins at 7 p.m. on May 24 at the Pioneer High School gym. Crump grew up in Central America where his parents were missionaries for 13 years. A Mission resident, he is the Lead Student Pastor at Palm Valley Church. The public is both invited to attend both events. He continues to travel, leading missionary groups to Eastern Europe, Central and South America.

May 20– Take a journey on the Resaca Vieja Nature Hike at Bentsen-RGV State Park at 8:30 a.m.  It’s the kids’ turn later that day at 2 p.m. for the Jr. Ranger Club; reservation required. June 22 – The South Texas Senior Summit – Hidalgo County, sponsored by the RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hacienda San Juan, 522 S. Iowa in San Juan. This is a free event for seniors age 60 and over, offering activities and education seminars on health, Medicare, Medicaid, fraud and abuse. UTRGV Medical School will give free wellness exams.
