November 25 – This is the deadline for the Hidalgo County Precinct 3 Second Annual Holiday Greeting Card Art Contest. This year’s theme is “Community.” Students from grades K through 12 are invited to participate in the competition. November 26– Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park staff brings back the Nature’s Memories program where participants learn about the history of nature journaling. Reservations are required for the workshop to be held at 2 p.m. Programs are included in the park admission. Meet at the tram turnaround at park headquarters. December 1– This is the deadline date for South Texas College Theatre’s Third Annual South Texas Latinx New Play Festival entries by all Latino playwrights to submit their new play scripts. Scripts can be submitted at https://forms.gle/rQZHJmJihghKWpMd6. Deadline for play submissions is by the end 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1. December 2 – This the next shipping date for the Game Changers McTX 10th annual “Operation RGV Cares” event to collect, address and ship care packages and greeting cards to service members deployed during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons. December 4 – The annual RGV Hispanic Chamber Ugly Sweater Christmas Mixer will be held at The Legacy Event Center, 4610 Jackson Rd., Edinburg, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. A prize will be awarded to the Ugliest Man and Woman Sweater. Besides the sweater contest, there will be food, beverages, networking and door prizes. An unwrapped child’s toy for Operation Christmas Toys is required to enter the event. Those bringing door prizes and an unwrapped toy will receive tickets to win door prizes. The general public is invited to bring toys to the RGVHCC office at 801 E. Fern, Suite 131, in McAllen. December 15 – This date is the deadline to register for the 2024 South Texas Border Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalist training class. Cameron, Hidalgo and Starr county residents over the age of 18 and Winter Texans are invited to participate.Class size is limited. The cost is $150 and includes textbook, fees, T-shirt, name tag and a one-year membership. Scholarships of $100 are available.
