Saturday morning, the Mission Police Department, Fire Department, and Public Works Department responded to an 18-wheeler that struck a home off the 2600 block of West Expressway 83.
At approximately 9 a.m., Mission PD received a call about an 18-wheeler that collided with a home on 2603 W Expressway 83 in Mission, Texas.
The five-bedroom home was vacant at the time of impact and on the market before the accident.
“The home at the moment is for sale,” said Mission Detective and Public Information Officer Jorge Rodrguez Jr.
JR’s Tires and Wheels security footage shows the semi-truck driving off the expressway eastbound through the grass median into the frontage road. The truck entered the business’s parking lot and struck a parked white GMC before hitting the vacant home.
Before it drifted off of the expressway, the semi hit the driver of a red Fiat, who remains in stable condition.
“When we got here, we had an 18-wheeler that struck a car on the Expressway before hitting the house,” said Deputy Fire Chief Chris Navarrete.
He confirmed that the Mission FD was not attempting a rescue for the driver, but a recovery.
“It is a recovery operation,” said Navarrete. “It is not a rescue. There is no indicator that the driver is alive.”
Navarrette said that the recovery may take a few more hours, as the 51-year-old driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, is under the rubble.
Rodriguez said that there is no known cause of the accident. The driver’s family has been notified of the death and an autopsy will be performed after recovery.
I believe there’s going to be an autopsy for the body,” said Rodriguez. “That’s all the information we have right now.”
Navarrete requests that citizens avoid the site of the accident.
“Traffic in general can just avoid the area,” he said. “That would be very helpful.”
