City Mayors: New Year, New Plans
Mayors share their plans for 2025
Transparency and accessibility are cornerstones of any healthy democracy. Without them, the public’s trust is lost, and governing is an impossibility. Citizens within a representative democracy are owed accountability from their elected officials because the power of an elected official is derived from the consent of the governed. These cornerstones are important now more than ever. At Progress Times Newspaper, we not only value these cornerstones, but work hard each day to safeguard them, because like our elected officials, we value the trust of the people we are accountable to: you, the reader.
Without you, the democratic project, and the American experiment itself is worthless.
That’s why this holiday season we offered our mayors an avenue to foster transparency and access by inviting them to share their plans for the new years with you: their constituents.

Here’s what they had to say:
“As we plan to say goodbye to 2024 and welcome the upcoming 2025, we can reflect on all the positive and negative to account and plan our goals for a blessed and productive upcoming year. Merry Christmas and Happy Blessed New Year!”

–Mayor Alma Salinas, Sullivan City
“As we welcome a New Year, we will continue working together to build and improve our City of Granjeno. Let kindness, fairness and generosity in our hearts construct a brighter future for all. Let us enter year 2025 with a promise of good things, a prosperous new beginning and filled with many blessings to everyone.”

-Mayor Yvette Cabrera, Granjeno
“As we start the New Year, I’m thankful to God for His blessings and the success we’ve achieved. This includes the widening of Main Avenue, which will make it safer and easier for everyone to get around. My goal for 2025 is to keep helping our city grow and continue to be a great place to live. With God’s guidance, let’s work together to make 2025 a great year!”

– Mayor Salvador Vela, Alton
“With God’s Grace, I plan to continue to fulfill and complete my personal goals of staying healthy, spiritually, mentally and physically. As a servant, I plan to continue to improve the quality of life for our residents by ensuring all taxpayers monies are expended with extreme measured thought, planning and purpose. I will put my trust in our Lord Jesus Christ for the new year!!

– Mayor Ricardo Villarreal, Palmview
“This New Year, my resolutions focus on strengthening my connection with family and community. Personally, I want to spend more time with my loved ones making sure I’m present for the moments that matter most. For La Joya, my commitment remains to listen closely to our residents and support initiatives that improve our city. This year, I plan to welcome 2025 surrounded by loved ones and the traditions that bring us together. I’m looking forward to attending community events, sharing ideas, and working hand in hand with our residents to make this year a great one for the City of La Joya.”

– Mayor Isidro Casanova, La Joya
“My purpose as Mayor of the City of Peñitas is to serve my constituents in every way I can. I will continue pushing us forward to a thriving economic growth united as a city council. This year, we have accomplished quite a bit, and things are looking very promising for the coming year as well.
