According to Mission CISD, Executive Director for Curriculum and Instruction Sharon Roberts informed it that she intended to retire on Monday.

On Tuesday, Roberts said she was spending time with family in Maine and largely declined to comment on her retirement.

“I’m just happy to retire,” she said. “Thirty-two years in Mission, 36 in education so it’s…you know.”

Roberts said she didn’t plan to be back in town until mid-July.

In a statement, Mission CISD commended Roberts on her time with the district.

“Dr. Roberts dedicated many years to Mission CISD, serving in a multiple of roles with heart, commitment, and professionalism,” it said. “Her work helped shape meaningful opportunities for students across the district. We are grateful for her lasting contributions and wish her continued success in all that lies ahead.”

During former Superintendent Carol Perez’s tenure leading the district Roberts served as deputy superintendent for curriculum and instruction, the second highest paid position at Mission CISD.

It was a prominent role.

When the Mission school board voted to place Perez on administrative leave last May trustees briefly named Roberts her acting replacement.

An administrative shakeup in November resulted in Roberts’ deputy superintendent position being eliminated.

She kept a job with the district but fell two rungs down the administrative ladder to an executive director post.

Former Deputy Superintendent for Business and Support Services Joel Garcia, who also saw his position eliminated in that shakeup in November, left the district within a month for a job as McAllen ISD’s CFO.
