Reyna named Mission school board president
In a split vote Wednesday Mission CISD trustees chose to name a fresh slate of board officers, selecting Dolores “Loli” Reyna as president.

Reyna, who was elected to the board last year, replaces Iris “Coach” Iglesias as the board’s president.
Trustees also voted to name Natividad “Nati” Sosa vice president and Petra Ramirez secretary.
Reyna said she wasn’t available to comment this week due to “prior commitments.”
Trustees voted on the new officers with almost no public discussion about it.

They did discuss the board’s reorganization with their attorney twice behind closed doors in executive session, once at a special meeting last week and once Wednesday.
It’s not clear what the board talked about during those discussions, though at some point Ramirez told trustees she wouldn’t accept a nomination for the board’s presidency.
They could have voted to reorganize at last week’s meeting, but delayed the decision because Trustee Danny Martinez didn’t attend.
Both Jerry Zamora and Veronica “Betty” Mendoza — who were serving as the board’s vice president and secretary prior to Wednesday— opposed the nominations.

Neither said why they opposed them, though Zamora noted that he would have preferred to vote on the different officer positions in separate motions.
Sosa, however, had already nominated herself, Reyna and Ramirez.
Wednesday’s vote points to some shifting relationships on the board, most noticeably perhaps between Sosa and Ramirez, who were sometimes bitterly at odds with each other last year.
