Mission CISD resignation notice incentive draws 48

A total of 48 employees decided to take the Mission Consolidated Independent School District up on a $500 incentive offer to tell the district they planned to resign early.

According to a release from the district, the incentives supported “proactive staffing efforts” for the upcoming school year.

Essentially, if school districts know who’s going to resign sooner they have more time to make staffing moves.

“Early notification enables the District to support strategic staffing decisions and campus-level scheduling, while enhancing its ability to recruit highly qualified candidates in competitive certification areas,” the release said. “Early vacancy identification enables more precise salary projections, allocation adjustments, and staffing forecasts.”

The employees who took the incentive included 20 teachers, seven administrators, six instructional aids and support staff members, six clerical and technical staff members, seven auxiliary employees and two transportation employees.

Among those employees were O’Grady Elementary Principal Angelina Garcia and Assistant Superintendent for Operations Ricardo Rivera, both of whom retired.

The incentive was available to employees who were under contract or letters of assurance and in good standing, who submitted a formal resignation and who fulfilled the rest of their work for the 2025-2026 school year.

Applications for the incentive closed in early April.
