COVID-19 claims the life of 28 Hidalgo County residents, 360 new cases reported

The Hidalgo County COVID-19 death count increased by 28 Friday on the same day the county reported 360 new cases of the disease.

The total death count now stands at 644  as the total number of known positive cases to now stands at 17,006.

“I extend my deepest sympathy to the friends and families who have lost a loved one today,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said in a statement. “The virus that causes COVID-19 is spreading very easily and sustainably between people. The best way to prevent the illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. Continue to maintain social distance, wash your hands regularly, routinely clean and disinfect and wear a facial mask.”

There are currently 813 people hospitalized with complications from the virus with 234 of those cases treated in intensive care units.

422 people were released from isolation on Friday after being symptom-free for 10 days, including three days without a fever. The total amount of patients released from isolation is now at 10,321 with 6,041 cases that are still active.
