With 675 new cases reported Monday, the total amount of known COVID-19 cases officially crossed the 25,000 on the same day the county reported 10 more deaths.
The total number of positive cases is 25,169 with 2,484 of those cases marked as active, according to a news release from the county.
The county COVID-19 death toll meanwhile now stands at 1,101.
“I extended my sincere sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of the 10 latest victims to pass from COVID-19. Each and every death is a tragedy for all of Hidalgo County,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said in the news release. “It is absolutely critical that we continue taking strong precautions to slow the spread of this deadly virus.”
593 people were released from isolation on Monday, meaning that they have been symptom-free for 10 days, including three days without a fever. 405 residents are in area hospitals with COVID-9 complications with 152 of those being treated in intensive care units.
