Hidalgo County reports lowest number of new COVID-19 infections in weeks, 22 deaths

On the day new orders were implemented in the county Hidalgo County Health officials reported a total of 73 new positive cases of COVID-19 as well as 22 additional deaths.

The latest case totals bring the count of people in the county who have died from this disease to 1,431 while the total number of positive COVID-19 cases now stands at 29,519 with 2,023 of them marked as active.

The latest round of new cases is the first time the amount of cases was in the double digits since mid-June.

“I urge all residents to continue taking precautions to slow the spread of COVID-19,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said in a Monday news release. “This includes practicing social distancing at all times, wearing cloth face coverings in public places, practicing good hand hygiene, and isolating immediately if you show symptoms of COVID-19.”

246 people remain in area hospitals with COVID-19 related complications with 90 of them being treated in intensive care units.
