COVID-19 cases and deaths in Hidalgo County continue to rise as officials with the Hidalgo County Health and Human Services reported 426 new cases of the disease and two more deaths related to the disease.
In a Tuesday news release release, the county said the death toll now stands at 2,006 as a total of 38,006 known positive cases have been seen in Hidalgo County since the virus was first reported last March. 2,315 of those cases remain active.
Tuesday numbers typically reflect the weekend case count but for the second day in a row, the county released their new figures without a statement from Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez.
According to the release, 169 county residents are hospitalized in area hospitals with COVID-19 related complications with 64 of them placed in intensive care units.
