COVID-19 cases jump past 41K in Hidalgo County

Another high amount of new reported COVID-19 cases shot Hidalgo County past a new, grim milestone Tuesday as the county reported 655 new positive cases of the disease.

With the new cases, the county has tallied a total of 41,496 cases of COVID-19. 2,001 of those cases are active, according to a county news release.

The county also reported 10 more COVID-19 related fatalities, bringing the total number of the dead to 2,044.

The deaths included three males and seven females from Donna, Edinburg, Mission, McAllen, Pharr and Weslaco whose ages ranged from their 30s to over the age of 70.

As of Tuesday, 180 people remain in area hospitals with COVID-19 related complications with 72 of them being treated in intensive care units.
