718 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Hidalgo County

The county reported Friday another 718 reported cases of COVID-19, increasing the total amount of cases of the disease in Hidalgo County to 63,551.

The Friday news release did not specify when the people tested positive for the disease, adding that nine COVID-19 positive individuals died from complications related to the virus. A total of 2,427 county residents have succumbed after contracting the virus, the news release from county health officials stated.

The new deaths were made up of five males and four women from the cities of Edinburg, Hidalgo, McAllen, Mercedes, Mission, Pharr and an undisclosed location. Their ages ranged from their 50s to over the age of 70.

Of the 63,551 total cases, 2,318 remain active.

425 county residents remain in area hospitals to be treated for COVID-19 related complications with 149 of them currently in intensive care units.
