November 30 – This is the deadline date to enter the 2021 Save Texas History Essay Contest for 4th and 7th grade students. The statewide contest encourages students to promote their communities’ history by answering an important question: “What history in your community is worth saving?” Two grand prize winners will each receive a $500 gift card and more, and five other finalists in each grade will receive $100 gift cards and more. Entries must meet all eligibility requirements. December 5– Celebrating the annual Christmas tree forest exhibit, the International Museum of Art & Science, will host a Holiday Market at the Museum from 1 to 5 p.m. Visitors can shop local artists in the market. December 6 – This is the deadline to donate toys to the Hidalgo County Pct. 3 toy drive. Donations should be new, unwrapped toys suitable for children ages 12 and younger.All toys collected will be distributed to children throughout the Precinct 3 community. December 8-9– The 27th Annual Mission Community Health & Wellness Fair will be held from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. both days. The event is free, open to the public, and will provide the following services: flu vaccines, complete blood count, total cholesterol, comprehensive metabolic panel, pulmonary function, QuantaFlow test to detect peripheral artery disease, bone density screening and more. A free master blood test by appointment will be available while supplies last; a 12-hour fast is required before the test. January 22 – The Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Tex-Mex Fest Grammy Tour scholarship fundraiser at Payne Arena in Hidalgo. Featured performers include La Mafia, Little Joe y Familia, and Elida y Avante. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the entertainment runs from 7 p.m. to midnight.
